MOSCOW, November 8 (RIA Novosti) - President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vitaly Mutko said he was satisfied with the job done by Russia's national soccer coach Yury Syomin, who resigned from his post earlier Tuesday.

"I thanked him..." Mutko said. "On the whole I am very satisfied with his work, and I believe our cooperation was fruitful."

He also said he had tried to talk Syomin out of resigning but the coach had been firm about his decision.

"We had a preliminary talk after the game in Slovakia. I did everything possible to change his mind. Today we talked again, he explained his position, and I respect it. He is one of the best coaches in Russia," Mutko said.

Syomin signed a contract to lead the Russian national soccer team in 2005, replacing coach Georgy Yartsev. Before that, Syomin served as coach for the Lokomotiv Moscow soccer club, which won the national title in 2002 and 2004.
