TALAKAN, November 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russian electricity monopoly Unified Energy System has put the fourth 335 MW hydroelectric generator at the Bureya Hydroelectric Station into operation, mainly completing the country's largest hydropower project, UES's head said Sunday at the opening ceremony.

CEO Anatoly Chubais said UES' key task was to launch the station's fifth and sixth units in 2007, bringing its total capacity to 2,000 MW. He noted that, to date, the station's units had been commissioned on time and within the projected budget.

Vyacheslav Sinyugin, the head of the federal hydro-generating company HydroOKG, said the Russian Far East was a key region for the development of hydropower.

The first three units of the Bureya Hydroelectric Station, located on the Bureya River at the junction of the Amur Region and the Khabarovsk Territory, began operating in 2003-2004.
