MOSCOW, November 2 (RIA Novosti) - Russian electricity monopoly Unified Energy System (UES) said Wednesday that the fourth power generating unit of the Bureyskaya hydro-electric power plant (HPP) would be launched November 6.

Top Russian officials are set to attend the opening ceremony, including Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, Presidential Envoy in the Far East Konstantin Pulikovsky, and Governor of the Amur Region Leonid Korotkov, along with UES CEO Anatoly Chubais, the company said in a press release.

UES plans to invest 5.9 billion rubles ($200 million) in the Bureiskaya HPP. With the launch of the fourth unit, Bureyskaya's capacity will increase by 50% to 1005 megawatts, the company said.

UES plans to complete two more units in 2007, bringing the plant's capacity up to 2000 megawatts, and upping yearly electricity production to 7.1 billion kilowatt-hours.

Bureiskaya is the largest power project in Russia in the last 15 years, and a priority for UES, vital not only for Far East energy supplies, but also for Russia's energy sector, the company said.
