GROZNY, October 27 (RIA Novosti) - A woman has voluntarily turned in about 50kg (110 lbs) of explosives and an artillery shell to a police department in the Chechen district of Achkhoi Martan, law-enforcement officials in the troubled Russian republic said Thursday.

The woman handed over 31kg (68 lbs) of TNT and more than 18kg (40 lbs) of C4, which she said she had found on the grounds of a former Russian military base. An investigation is now under way to determine the facts in the case.

Also in Achkhoi Martan, a rebel suspect has been detained in a police raid in connection with the August 13 militant attack on the village of Roshni Chu, in the Urus Martan district, officials said. Three policemen were killed in that attack.

A land mine went off Wednesday in the Chechen district of Itum Kalin killing a federal serviceman. Police are working to identify the perpetrator(s).
