MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) -- Russian, Ukrainian, and OSCE mediators in the Transdnestr settlement, as well as U.S. and European Union observers, met in Ljubljana Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Saturday.

The meeting was initiated by OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel.

The Russian side was represented by Ambassador-at-Large Valery Nesterushkin.

The OSCE chairman-in-office briefed the mediators and observers on his latest contacts with the leadership of the Republic of Moldova and Transdnestr, as well as his talks in Moscow and Kiev on prospects for the Transdnestr settlement.

"The participants in the meeting exchanged opinions on the current situation in the region and addressed matters of practical interaction in reviving political negotiations with the participation of the Moldovan and Transdnestr delegations with a view to continuing the search for a comprehensive and sustainable solution for this regional conflict," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The mediators and observers expressed readiness to facilitate a constructive and substantive dialogue between the parties to the conflict at the upcoming round of negotiations in Chisinau and Tiraspol, on October 27 and 28," the ministry said.
