MOSCOW, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - Thirty-five security and police personnel and nine civilians were killed in last week's militant attack on Nalchik, the capital of the North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkariya, the republic's presidential spokesperson said Monday, citing an interior ministry report.

Dzhamilya Khagarova said the majority of those killed in the attacks were residents of Kabardino-Balkariya.

Earlier Monday, the spokeswoman said two of the nine civilians killed had not yet been identified.

Militants simultaneously attacked several police and government buildings in Nalchik, as well as the local airport, last Thursday. According to Russian officials, the counter operation, which continued into Friday, left 91 of the attackers dead and 36 captured.
