MOSCOW, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - Home favorite Igor Andreyev won the men's title in Russia's premier tennis tournament, the Kremlin Cup Sunday, while France's Mary Pierce took the honors in the ladies' competition.

"It was a crazy match," Andreyev said after defeating Germany's Nicolas Kiefer 5:7, 7:6 (7:3), 6:2 in the final. "I don't remember losing so much."

After losing the first set, the Russian was facing a dire situation at 0:4 in the second before turning things around and clinching the tiebreak.

Andreyev said it was hard for him to compare the victory in the Moscow tournament with anything else. "In any case, winning a tournament is always a new feeling, but winning in Moscow is just super," he added.

Kiefer, who lost the 2001 Kremlin Cup final to former Russian no.1 Yevgeny Kafelnikov, was unhappy with the match officials, saying it was difficult to play in Russia against a Russian. He criticized one line judge and said the umpire had had an awful match as well.

However, the German added that it was a great match and said Andreyev deserved to win the title, which earned him $142,000.

Earlier on Sunday, Pierce won the women's singles title and a pay check for $189,000 with a straight sets victory 6:4, 6:3 against Italy's Francesca Schiavone.
