LISBON, October 9 (RIA Novosti) - Commanders assigning soldiers to do jobs that are not connected with military service will be dismissed and may go on trial, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said Sunday.
"There are myths that soldiers do nothing but gather crops and build houses for generals," Ivanov said. "Commanders who give such orders will be sacked and may be put into prison."
The minister said he had signed a relevant order Saturday as the abuse of power in the Armed Forces often led to lethal accidents.
He added that the Military Prosecutor's Office would make decisions on criminal responsibility of dismissed commanders.
