ST. PETERSBURG, October 7 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that he hoped the domestic political situation in Germany would not affect Russian-German relations. "I would not like our top level contacts... to stop, in spite of any domestic political events," Putin said at a meeting with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in St. Petersburg.
Schroeder said he had also come to Russia to congratulate the Russian leader on his 53rd birthday.
