Adds quotes VILNIUS, October 6 (RIA Novosti, Vladimir Vodo) - Valery Troyanov, the pilot of a Russian fighter that crashed in Lithuania in September, has been released from house arrest and can return to Russia, Lithuanian Prosecutor Mindaugas Duda said Thursday.

Russian Air Force Commander Vladimir Mikhailov said Troyanov would first go to the Kaliningrad region, Russia's exclave on the Baltic Sea, before traveling to a base in the Leningrad region.

Troyanov said the Lithuanian authorities treated him "properly."

"I rejected Lithuania's proposal to undergo medical examination as representatives of the Russian embassy in Lithuania were not admitted [to the examination]," he said.

Major-General Sergei Bainetov, a representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, said Lithuania's investigation was competent.

"I thanked Brigadier General Vitalijus Vaiksnoras [the head of the Lithuanian commission investigating the crash] and said we would take into account the commission's conclusions," Bainetov said.

He said the decision on Troyanov's future would be made after the investigation of the crash was completed.

Troyanov and his wife Olga will leave Lithuania Thursday night.

Lithuanian National Defense Minister Gediminas Kirkilas said he would set up a commission to make a decision on the wreckage of the Su-27 fighter, which prosecutors are currently keeping as material evidence.

According to Lithuanian law, the material evidence may be either destroyed in Lithuania or handed over to Russia, but Russia has not submitted an official request for the wreckage yet, the Lithuanian National Defense Ministry said.

The Su-27 fighter, flying from St. Petersburg to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, crashed September 15 on Lithuanian territory after a navigation system failure. Major Troyanov managed to eject safely and no one was hurt in the incident.
