MOSCOW, October 5 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is in need of more hospices, a leading Russian oncologist told a press conference Wednesday.
According to Georgy Novikov, Director of the Herzen Center for Treating Chronic Pain Syndromes in Cancer Patients, as few as 60 hospices now provide medical care and psychological support for terminal cancer and AIDS patients in Russia and at least 280 more are needed.
There are 2 million registered cancer patients in Russia at the moment, 400,000 new cases are added to the list annually and the number of fatalities is about 320,000, Novikov said.
