MOSCOW, September 28 (RIA Novosti) - Economic development will be a priority for the new Kyrgyz government, President Kurmanbek Bakiyev said Wednesday.

"We will focus all our efforts on reinvigorating [the existing] and creating new capacities in the mining sector, the hydropower industry, agriculture, and tourism," Bakiyev said at a meeting with U.S. Assistant Deputy Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Daniel Fried.

The Kyrgyz president briefed the U.S. diplomat on the current political situation in the republic and the parliament's confirmation hearings on new cabinet members.

Bakiyev said Kyrgyzstan would maintain and advance mutually beneficial and friendly relations with all neighboring states, Russia, the United States, and European countries.

"Daniel Fried thanked Kyrgyzstan for its consent to deploy anti-terrorism coalition forces at Manas airport and its contribution to regional security. He said that the United States would like to have good relations with all countries in the region, including Russia," the presidential press service reported.
