MOSCOW, September 12 (RIA Novosti)-The Russian volleyball team took the silver medal in the European Championship Sunday.
It lost in the final 2-3 (22:25; 25:14; 25:15; 19:25; 10:15) to Italy. This was the only defeat inflicted on the Russians throughout the tournament after five straight wins in the group stage and a semifinal triumph.
Although the Russian team, coached by Yugoslavian-born Zoran-Gajic, had beaten the Italians in the group stage, it could not repeat this success in the final encounter.
Serbia and Montenegro took the bronze medal after beating Spain 3-0 (25:18, 25:21, 25:22).
