MOSCOW, September 9 (RIA Novosti) - Inmates at a Moscow pre-detention facility have backed down on their threats to go on a hunger strike after an inquiry was launched into a warden's alleged abuse of power, the Federal Penitentiary Service said Friday.

Inmates of the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-detention center said the warden had abused his position and therefore, they had wanted to initiate a strike, the agency's press service said. The inmates also tried to persuade other suspects and defendants in Matrosskaya Tishina to give up food.

However, the inmates changed their mind and ate breakfast after a criminal case was opened against the warden.

"The situation in the pre-detention center is under control and the center is operating as usual," the press service said.
