MOSCOW, September 9 (RIA Novosti) - Chechen Prime Minister Sergei Abramov wants to gradually replace Russian federal troops with Chechen law enforcement bodies to maintain law and order in the republic.

"We would like to replace the federal component with the republican one within a certain period, considering the necessity and effectiveness of such a step," he said at a news conference Friday.

Abramov says Chechen law enforcement officials are ready for the challenge.

"At present, the situation in Chechnya is stable, including in the sphere of crime prevention," Abramov said. "However, we should not forget that crimes in Chechnya have a specific character."
