MOSCOW, September 9 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow residents will remember the victims of a terrorist attack in the southeast of the city on Friday.

On September 8, 1999, terrorists blew up two sections of a nine-story apartment building on 19 Guryanova Street in Moscow killing 106 people and injuring more than 200.

Terrorists set up explosive devices in four locations: on Guryanova Street, Kashirskoye Highway, at Borisovsky Ponds and on Krasnodarskaya Street. The police managed to prevent two terrorist acts, but the tragedy on Guryanova Street was followed by the destruction of an eight-story apartment building on Kashirskoye Highway on September 13.

In April 2003, the Prosecutor General's Office concluded its investigation of the September 1999 terrorist acts in Moscow and Volgodonsk, a town in southern Russia.

According to investigation, eight people had been involved in preparing the September 1999 terrorist acts in Moscow.

The masterminds of the attacks were identified as two foreign mercenaries, Khattab and Abu Umar, who were later killed by federal troops in Chechnya.

Two of the eight terrorists were sentenced to life in prison in 2004. Five terrorists were killed in special operations and one is still at large.
