ST. PETERSBURG, September 8 (RIA Novosti, Maxim Nichoporenko) - The Russian-British marathon that spanned Russia, The Great Russian Race, finished Thursday on Palace Square in St. Petersburg.

The marathon started on May 28 in Vladivostok in Russia's Far East. The 255 runners of the Russian-British team covered about 11,000km having visited 25 largest Russian cities. Some 3,500 sports amateurs joined them at various stages of the run.

Charity was the important side of the marathon. About $200,000 was collected during the marathon for non-commercial organizations working with orphanages.

The World Race Trust led by Richard Haldane and the all-Russian Athletics Federation organized the marathon.
