Russia beats Serbia and Montenegro in women's basketball

MOSCOW, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian women's basketball team have beaten Serbia and Montenegro in the European Basketball Championships in Turkey, 86:69.

Russia's Yelena Shakirova achieved the highest score of 20 points.

In the qualifying stage, Russia won three matches (over Romania, Turkey, and Serbia and Montenegro), and lost two (to Spain and Lithuania).

In the first stage, the Russian team, who are the title-holders, will end up third or fourth in group B, which will be enough to get them into the quarter-finals of the championship.

The quarter finals will take place on 9 September in Ankara.
