"The struggle against three evils, terrorism, extremism and separatism, in the framework of the SCO meets the goals and tasks of the organization and plays an important role in maintaining peace and stability in the region," Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan said after talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Ivanov.
According to the Chinese official, the SCO, which comprises Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, boasts a successful history and has achieved positive results, including in the sphere of institutional development.
"The SOC plays an important role in ensuring stability in the region," he said.
Summing up the results of Tuesday's talks, Ivanov said the sides had focused on the discussion of military and political issues.
"We talked about increasing the effectiveness of SCO activities and discussed the situation in various regions," he said. "I can say with certainty that Russia's and China's approaches to the issues of global security either fully coincide or are almost identical," he said.
