MOSCOW, September 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Audit Chamber is looking to control the effectiveness of natural resources management in Russia, the chamber's chairman Sergei Stepashin said Tuesday.

"The Audit Chamber has been reviewing, and will continue reviewing, the effectiveness of natural resources management," Stepashin said, addressing the first international forum on environmental conservation in the nation's capital.

Stepashin said the agency's responsibilities included control over the effectiveness of natural resources management jointly with its foreign counterparts, adding that the agency had already assessed several Baltic Sea ecological projects with audit authorities from Poland and Lithuania.

The agency is scheduled to conduct joint audits of Caspian Sea projects, involving Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Iran and assess the effectiveness of natural resources management in the north-European Barents Sea with its Norwegian counterparts next year. (more)
