Siemens to build sorting center in Russia

Moscow, September 5 (RIA Novosti) - German-owned Siemens and the Post Office of Russia signed a 50-million euro contract to build an automated sorting center in northwestern Russia.

According to the contract, Siemens will design and construct the building, infrastructure and utility networks, develop sorting and logistic patterns, start up the equipment and train the staff within 18 months.

The new center will have a daily mailing capacity of 1.5 million units and will serve St. Petersburg and the Leningrad, Pskov and Novgorod regions.

Commerzbank funds, borrowed against the guarantees of the German export loaning agency Hermes, will be allotted for the project.
