KAZAN, September 5 (RIA Novosti) - The International Muslim Film Festival, scheduled to be held in the capital of the Russian republic of Tatarstan, will take a stand against terrorism, a member of the festival's panel of judges said Monday.

Kirill Razlogov, a Russian Culture Ministry official, said the festival will help to improve Islam's image.

The festival is not aiming to provoke confrontation between different religions, "although... this confrontation is growing in the world as a whole," he said.

The clash between Christian and Muslim cultures is a very popular theme among European filmmakers, he said.

Tatar film director Rais Ismagilov, who considers the festival "a political event", will serve on the panel of judges.

"Our Festival will show that Islam is against all forms of violence and terror," the producer said.

Films "critical of particular phenomena in the Muslim world" may be shown, said Rustam Ibrahimbekov, another member of the panel.
