Russian diver sets new world record

PARIS, September 4 (RIA Novosti, Andrei Nizamutdinov) - Russia's Natalia Molchanova has become women's world champion in static apnea diving.

According to the official results reported Saturday by the judges at the 1st Individual World Freediving Championship in France, Molchanova had a strong lead on other participants setting a new world record in depth diving, 86 meters.

Canadian diver Mandy-Rae Cruickshank, who had set the previous world record, 78 meters, showed poor performance during the current event and was disqualified.

Second-place Lotta Ericson from Sweden hit 65 meters, and third-place Malara Mattia from Italy reached the depth of 64 meters.
