MOSCOW, September 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has withdrawn from a border agreement with Estonia, the Kremlin press-service said Thursday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a resolution outlining Russia's intention not to participate in a treaty on the Russian-Estonian border or a treaty on the delimitation of maritime territories in the Gulf of Narva and the Gulf of Finland.

Putin ordered the foreign ministry to notify Estonia of the decision, according to Article 18 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, stipulating a clear notification of a country's intention not to become a party to the treaty.

The two treaties were signed in Moscow on May 18. But on May 20, the Estonian parliament passed a bill confirming the country's territorial claims to Russia and stipulating ratification of the above-mentioned treaties in accordance with national regulations and with the obsolete Tartu Peace Treaty of 1920.
