Top Russian tennis players to compete in WTA Kremlin Cup

MOSCOW, September 1 (RIA Novosti) - Ten Russian tennis players have confirmed they will participate in the Kremlin Cup 2005 tournament, the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) said Wednesday.

According to the WTA Tour press service, the players include Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Elena Dementieva, Anastasia Myskina, Vera Zvonareva, Elena Bovina, Elena Likhovtseva, Dinara Safina, Anna Chakvetadze, and Vera Douchevina.

Russian tennis super star Maria Sharapova, currently second in the ATP singles ratings, will debut at the Kremlin Cup.

Experts consider the top contenders for the Cup, beside the Russians, to be French players Amelie Mauresmo and Nathalie Dechy, Venus Williams, winner of Wimbledon 2005, Athens' Olympics singles and doubles winner Alicia Molik of Australia, and two players from Serbia and Montenegro, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovich.

The Kremlin Cup 2005 women's prize money totals $1.3 million, with $189,000 for first place.

The tournament will be held at Moscow's Olympic Stadium October 8-16.
