TBLISI, August 31 (RIA Novosti) - Police in Samegrelo, western Georgia, confiscated goods on Wednesday owned by Russian peacekeepers who are regulating the conflict between Georgia and the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia, local police reported.

The Russian peacekeepers' vehicle was stopped on the Inguri River (the border between the Zugdidi region in Georgia and the Gali region in Abkhazia), the police said. In all, 4000 boxes of cigarettes with Abkhazian excise marks, classified by Georgian law as smuggled goods, were confiscated.

Viktor Kazantsev, the head of the peacekeepers' southern zone HQ, said the seizure was an infringement of a Moscow agreement on freedom of movement for peacekeepers.
