PERM, August 31 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Emergencies Ministry will send an aircraft to the U.S. carrying helicopters for evacuating Russian citizens from high-rise buildings in the areas hit by Hurricane Katrina, the deputy governor of the Urals region of Perm said Wednesday.

Vladimir Lobanov said: "The aircraft should arrive at the Baton Rouge rescue station near New Orleans. We hope that the Russian citizens, who include people from Perm, will receive help."

Information on hurricane victims from Perm had been sent from the Russian consulate in Washington to Russian Consul General in Houston, Nikolai Sopitsky.

The diplomats then began to cooperate with U.S. authorities in the disaster area.

At least three Russian students are stuck on the roof of a hotel in New Orleans, two of whom have managed to contact their parents. Attempts are being made to contact the parents of the third student, Lobanov said.

There may be around 30 Russians in the disaster zone in New Orleans, he said.

Around 100 people have been killed in flooding caused by the hurricane. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that no Russians are known to have died.
