GROZNY, August 25 (RIA Novosti) - The Chechen election committee held its first meeting Thursday in Grozny, the republic's capital, on preparations for the parliamentary elections, a committee official said.

Ismail Baykhanov, head of the election committee, said the members of the committee approved the delineation of one-mandate electoral districts for the parliamentary elections scheduled for November 27.

The Chechen republic has 596,000 registered voters who are going to be divided into 21 electoral districts with 29,000 voters each.

Baykhanov said the committee had also established a working schedule for processing documents received from electoral associations.

According to the Chechen constitution, the parliament comprises two chambers - the Republican Council and the People's Assembly. Twenty-one deputies are elected to the Council in accordance with the number of administrative-territorial units, which include 18 districts and three cities.

Baykhanov said the elections would be conducted in 15 districts and three cities because the status of the three remaining districts has not yet been established.

Forty deputies will be elected to the People's Assembly, 20 in one-mandate districts and another 20 in the unified Chechen electoral district according to party ballots.
