MOSCOW, August 22 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Federal Agency for Industry (Rosprom) will prepare a plan of action to correct all defects of the IL-96-300 plane by tomorrow evening, the agency's senior official told a news conference.

"We have to investigate the nature of the defects of this type of plane," Boris Alyoshin, head of Rosprom, said. "The action plan will be ready by tomorrow. We think these planes have manufacturing defects in the brake system."

The decision to suspend the operation of IL-96-300 planes was adopted to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers, he said.

Alyoshin said 19 defects had been detected in the IL-96-300 from 1993 to 2005.

During investigations of these defects, experts primarily paid attention to the safety of the planes. He said the state wanted to operate Russia's passenger fleet at the highest levels of safety.

Head of the Ilyushin Design Bureau Viktor Livanov said, "The Rosprom expert committee concluded that the defect of the brake system on the IL-96-300 planes does not affect the safety of the plane."

"If the system fails on the ground, it might lead, at most, to the delay of the flight until the brake system is replaced," Livanov said.
