MOSCOW, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - Ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the Bulgarian, Romanian, Turkish and Ukrainian naval forces involved in the fifth activation of the Blackseafor Black Sea Naval Cooperation Task Group arrived at the Bulgarian port of Varna, the Russian Black Sea Fleet's press service said.

Twenty joint exercises were held at Bulgarian and Romanian naval ranges and in neutral waters on August 16-18 to practice anti-submarine defense, repulsion of attacks, monitoring of movements of civilian planes and vessels and rescue operations.

"The [Russian] Yamal amphibious assault ship organized and supervised exercises of visual signaling, cargo handover and search and rescue of men overboard," the press service said.

Blackseafor commanders visited Brigadier Admiral George Georgiev, the Varna naval base commander and met with the Varna mayor and prefect. They discussed the Blackseafor role in combating terrorism and promoting multilateral links between the Black Sea states.

The Blackseafor ships will leave Varna on August 22 and head for Eregli (Turkey).
