MOSCOW, August 15 (RIA Novosti) - Minister of Economic Development and Trade German Gref will visit Kiev on August 19 at the invitation of Ukrainian Economy Minister Sergei Terekhin, the Russian ministry announced in a press release.

The sides will discuss a free trade zone to be formed between the two countries, in particular a protocol eliminating artificial barriers to free trade, and also a comprehensive agreement on mutual pipe supplies.

"There are plans to discuss Russia and Ukraine's WTO accession, the Common Economic Space (CES), and other issues," the ministry said.

Both countries are certainly interested in further developing economic ties in high-tech sectors, in particular aviation and space. Businessmen, in turn, seek closer investment cooperation, the press release said.

Ukraine is Russia's main trade partner within the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States).

According to the ministry, trade turnover increased 26% in the first six months of 2005 year on year, totaling nearly $9.4 billion. Exports grew 25.9% (reaching nearly $6 billion), and imports by 26.4% (up to $3.5 billion).
