MOSCOW, August 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russian human rights organizations condemn the recent attacks on Poles in Moscow and on Russians in Poland, and urge the two countries to find the perpetrators and ensure the security of visitors, presidential human rights official Sergei Markov and Civil Society chairman Sergei Abakumov said in a joint statement Friday.

"These attacks are not purely criminal, they have political motivation," the statement said.

"Russian and Polish politicians and public figures should seize the initiative from radicals and ultra-nationalists in forming the bilateral agenda."

The Civil Council aims to promote public dialogue "for the purpose of historic reconciliation of Poland and Russia", following the example of French-German and German-Polish reconciliation.

Poland and Russia share not only a common history but also "experience in productive cooperation," Markov and Abakumov said.

"Today our task is to form common European spaces in the spheres of security, economy, and humanitarian cooperation, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to Vladivostok, to develop EU-Russia relations, and to counter international terrorism."
