SUKHUMI, August 4 (RIA Novosti, Ruslan Tarba) - The situation in the security zone controlled by Russian peacekeepers in Abkhazia is stable, the Joint Headquarters of the CIS Collective Peacekeeping Forces in the zone said in a statement.

During a regular Thursday meeting, participants discussed the release of 12 Georgian woodcutters detained in the Galski district of Abkhazia.

Commander of the Georgian peacekeeping battalion Valery Dzhaparidze requested Abkhazia's release of Georgians accused of illegally crossing the border and illegal woodcutting, saying there was no state border between Georgia and Abkhazia.

Dzhaparidze hoped to meet with Abkhazian prosecutors, but they did not show up. A Sukhumi court is expected to rule Thursday on the Georgian woodcutters accused of illegally crossing the border.

Joint Headquarters Commander Col. Alexander Kazantsev said there was a separation line, but acknowledged that the absence of a border-guard infrastructure could lead to similar incidents in the future.
