DUSHANBE, July 26 (RIA Novosti) - Issues of Afghanistan's post-war reconstruction were the focus of talks between Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov and U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who arrived in Dushanbe Tuesday on a routine visit from Bishkek.
Tajik Foreign Minister Talbak Nazarov told a news conference following the talks that Tajikistan was set to participate in efforts to keep peace and stability in Afghanistan.
"President Rakhmonov expressed gratitude to the U.S. administration for aid given to the republic and assistance in the construction of the bridge across the Pyandzh River linking Tajikistan and Afghanistan," Nazarov said.
"The parties also discussed problems of security in Central Asia, including the protection of the Tajik-Afghan border," Nazarov said.
