MOSCOW, July 25 (RIA Novosti) - A new poll has found that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is the most widely known CIS leader in Russia, the All-Russia Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) said Monday.

According to the poll, 85% of Russians polled knew his correct name and position.

Three-fourths of the respondents (76%) correctly named Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko.

The respondents were not so well-informed about the Kazakh, Azerbaijani and Georgian presidents (59%, 54% and 47% named the positions of Nursultan Nazarbayev, Ilkham Aliyev and Mikhail Saakashvili respectively).

The majority of respondents said most CIS leaders were pursuing an unfriendly policy towards Russia, particularly, the Georgian and Ukrainian presidents (55% and 53% of the polled). The respondents said that the policies of the Moldovan, Turkmen and Tajik presidents were also unfriendly (38%, 24% and 25%), while the activities of the Belarussian and Kazakh leaders were friendly (52% and 50%).

The Russian leadership could borrow some positive experience from the presidents of Belarus (15%) and Kazakhstan (8%). Accordingly, Lukashenko and Nazarbayev hold the first and second places in the ratings of "presidents having a positive experience of leadership."

The nationwide poll of 1,600 Russians was conducted from July 16-17 in 153 settlements of 46 Russian regions, territories and republics with a statistical error of 3.4%.
