Mission Control Center (Korolyov), July 19 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian spacecraft Soyuz and its operating cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev docked with the International Space Station's Zarya unit at 3:08 p.m., Moscow time, on Tuesday, officials from Mission Control reported.

The re-docking operation was conducted due to a problem at the International Space Station (ISS) concerning the hatch separating the ISS from the Soyuz spacecraft.

"The signal that the hatch was closed did not appear on the electronic board. The astronauts had been given instructions and the hatch had been successfully closed even before the station entered the radio coverage zone," the official said.

The re-docking operation started at 2:38 p.m., Moscow time, with the Soyuz being manually moved by Krikalyov from the Pier module to the Zarya docking port. It was conducted ahead of time in order to clear the Pier module before a space walk set for August.
