MOSCOW, July 14 (RIA Novosti, Mikhail Turgiyev) - Construction on the first private gas turbine power station here has begun in the city's south.

"This is the first power station in Moscow that is being financed by private investors, a Turkish-U.S. consortium," said Moscow Deputy Mayor Yury Roslyak. "It is the first step toward implementing the development program of alternative power sources in the city."

Roslyak said Moscow authorities are set to develop an alternative power supply system and that 20 similar stations are scheduled to be built here.

"These stations meet all ecological standards and will not affect the environment," he said.

The first station will be completed by the end of 2006. Its planned capacity is 130 megawatt per hour. The project is worth $200 million.
