ANDIJAN, July 11 (RIA Novosti) - Uzbek prosecutors have raised the death toll in the May uprisings here to 187.

Andijan Regional Prosecutor Bakhadyr Dekhkanov told a news conference at the local administration that the new figure included 94 terrorists, 20 police officers, 11 military and 57 bystanders.

Earlier, Uzbek authorities listed 176 people killed and 295 wounded. According to the Uzbek Foreign Ministry, 79 of those killed and 62 of those injured were terrorists.

Five bodies have yet to be identified, the prosecutor said.

The investigation established that 14 people were secretly buried by their relatives, said Dekhkanov.

The damage totaled 3,322 million sumy or about $3,020,000, Dekhkanov said.

He said 18 terrorist groups totaling 200 people were operating here in May.

The terrorists took a total of 70 people hostage, and later killed 14 of them, the prosecutor told reporters.

During the investigation, the police detained 105 people, arresting 50 of them, Dekhkanov said.

An uprising here in the early hours of May 13 lead to the fatalities. The opposition and human rights advocates put the death toll at 700.

According to investigators, the revolts involved international terrorist networks such as the Islamic Movement of Turkestan (the former Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan), Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami (the Party of Islamic Liberation), and a splinter group Akramiilar.
