MOSCOW, July 7 (RIA Novosti) - The terrorist attacks in London "are directly linked to the G8 summit", a senior member of the lower chamber of the Russian parliament said Thursday. Konstantin Kosachev, the chairman of the State Duma's international affairs committee, said the terrorist attacks were an attempt to disrupt the summit. "I think any changes in the G8 agenda would now be tantamount to a concession to terrorists," Kosachev said.

"The summit must proceed as scheduled. It will be a signal to terrorists that they are unable to influence global politics."

He also welcomed the common belief of the G8 leaders that terrorism was a common threat facing all civilized nations and that it should be confronted together.

Kosachev also said the fight against terrorism was incompatible with double standards, or attempts to divide terrorists into good and bad ones, and affected countries into guilty and innocent ones.

The committee chairman discounted theories that the London attacks were linked with the International Olympic Committee's decision to award the Olympics to London. "The series of terrorist attacks that swept London today were evidently prepared carefully and well in advance," he said.

Kosachev added, "The international community will now expect the G8 leaders to begin proactively developing a global front to combat international terrorism."
