St. Petersburg experts to help build subway in Iran

ST. PETERSBURG, July 5 (RIA Novosti, Olga Vtorova) - Experts from St. Petersburg, Russia's second biggest city, will contribute to the construction of a subway system in the Iranian city of Isfahan, a source in the Russian city's administration said.

According to the source, St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko, and Morteza Nejad, the mayor of Isfahan, met Tuesday to discuss prospects for cooperation under this project.

Orders for subway train cars produced at St. Petersburg's Vagonmash factory for both the subway in Isfahan and possibly other Iranian cities was discussed within the framework of the program of Cooperation between St. Petersburg and Isfahan for 2005-2007, which was signed on Tuesday.

The program also envisages the development of the mutually beneficial cooperation in the cultural field.

A document on the cooperation between St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and the University of Najafabad in Iran is currently being prepared for signing.
