MOSCOW, July 4 (RIA Novosti) - NASA's Deep Impact project to send a probe into the Tempel 1 comet poses no threat to Earth, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Fortov said Monday. "The orbit of the comet, which is 431 million kilometers from Earth, was disturbed by only 10 centimeters," Fortov said.
Scientists had been afraid of a detonation following the collision, he added.
"It was hardly possible, but even had it happened there would have been no danger to Earth," Fortov said.
