CSTO launches air defense exercises

ENGELS (Saratov region), June 25 (RIA Novosti) - Air defense exercises have started on the territory of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states today.

"The Commonwealth-2005 exercises involving Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan began on Saturday," Russian Air Force Commander-in-Chief General of the Army Vladimir Mikhailov said.

"Ten aircraft units, 3 radio-technical brigades, anti-aircraft troops and separate radio-technical troops of the CSTO member states are taking part in the exercises," Mikhailov said.

The first stage of the exercises is held at the Telemba training ground near Chita (Siberia), the second stage will be held in Kazakhstan and the third one at the Ashuluk training ground in the Astrakhan region (the Volga area) on August 30.
