MOSCOW, June 24 (RIA Novosti) - RAO UES chief Anatoly Chubais admitted a strategic mistake of the electricity monopoly's management in the May power crisis in the Moscow region.

Serious personnel drawbacks, outdated equipment and strategic mistakes of the RAO UES management and Chubais himself are among the crisis causes, Chubais told journalists Friday.

According to him, the management failed to pay due attention to the unified energy system reliability.

The power holding proposed to adjust the company's goals, improve the management procedure and upgrade equipment to prevent a similar crisis in the future, Chubais said.

He denied the allegations that the crisis was a result of the power energy reform and that it would stop the reform itself.

"I will not answer No," Chubais said in reply to the question whether a similar power crisis might happen again.

"Our purpose is to minimize the possibility of a similar crisis in the future."

According to Chubais, the Arbitration Court should evaluate the damage caused by the May crisis.

The major power outage at an electricity substation in Moscow on May 24 brought much of Moscow to a standstill. It paralyzed public transport and left homes, schools and hospitals without power.

The outage also affected the Moscow, Kaluga and Tula regions.
