Putin, Bush to meet during G8 summit

LONDON, June 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President George Bush will hold a meeting during the G8 summit of the world's most industrialized countries in Scotland next month.

Alexander Yakovenko, the official spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told journalists that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had discussed preparations for the meeting when they met in London yesterday.

He also said that Lavrov met with British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw and discussed prospects for Russia-EU cooperation when Britain takes over the rotating G8 chair. The ministers also discussed the preparation for the summit in Scotland.

According to Yakovenko, the Russian minister also met with Lord Brown, the head of British Petroleum, and discussed prospects for Russian-British economic cooperation.

"During the meeting, Lord Brown said Russia was an attractive investment partner and confirmed he was prepared to expand cooperation with Russia," Yakovenko said.

The Russian foreign minister was in London to meet his G8 counterparts and to participate in the a meeting of the four international intermediaries in the Middle East peace process (Russia, the U.S., the EU and the UN).
