MOSCOW, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is looking to cooperate with the European Union and NATO on security issues, the organization said in a joint statement adopted following a summit.

The CSTO is asking interested countries and international and regional organizations to closely coordinate efforts on the post-conflict settlement in Afghanistan in order to help the country solve the political and economic problems and turn it into a democratic state.

"We are for resolute decisions within the framework of the CSTO as well for international efforts to counteract the threat of drug expansion from Afghanistan by forming anti-narcotic security belts around the country's perimeter," the statement said.

The organization also addressed Iran's prospective use of nuclear energy.

"We believe that the current disagreements in the evaluations and opinions on the development of the Iranian nuclear program can be and must be settled only by peaceful political means considering that sovereign Iran has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes," the statement said.

The organization is also in favor of settling the nuclear problem on the Korean Peninsula.

"We want to see the Eurasian continent flourishing and safe," the document said.

The CSTO includes Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Armenia.
