The company's president, Vladimir Yakunin, today met with a delegation from Saudi Arabia, which proposed that the Russian company participate in the construction of a land bridge 1,200 kilometers long that would connect ports on the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea.
The Saudi delegation was interested in attracting Russian investment and directly involving Russian Railways in the project, because the Russian company had vast experience in this sphere. The company's experts were invited to visit Saudi Arabia in the near future to see the construction conditions.
A feasibility report on the railroad's construction is being prepared. A technical report, which will be used as the basis for an international tender for the project, will be ready in November this year.
According to Russian Railways, the company will only determine to what extent it will participate in a project to construct a Riyadh-Medina-Jeddah-Mecca branch of the railroad after its specialists have studied the technical report in detail.
