CHISINAU, June 21 (RIA Novosti, Vladimir Novosadyuk) - Moldova is interested in stepping up cooperation with NATO, President Vladimir Voronin said today.

"Moldova has proposed an initiative to develop an individual plan of action with the North Atlantic alliance," Voronin said at a meeting with Romanian Defense Minister Teodor Atanasiu, who was making a visit to the Moldovan capital, Chisinau.

Voronin praised NATO's support for projects that are important for Moldova, the presidential press service said.

The Romanian minister told Voronin that his country wanted to develop relations with Moldova under the NATO Partnership for Peace program and within the framework of bilateral military cooperation.

Romania became a NATO member on April 2, 2004.

Atanasiu said an agreement on cooperation in military communications, which was signed by the defense departments of the two countries during his visit, was an important document.
