MOSCOW, June 21 (RIA Novosti) - Kremlin talks between the Russian and Mexican presidents, Vladimir Putin and Vicente Fox, on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) ended today in the adoption of a joint statement.

"The parties were pleased to state that the Russian-Mexican talks on the terms of Russia's accession to the WTO had been completed successfully and welcomed the signing of the relevant documents," the statement said.

It continued: "[The parties] agreed to identify ways to boost bilateral cooperation in the tourist industry and study opportunities to create the most favorable conditions for tourists and businessmen, particularly with regard to improvements in the legal base regulating tourist and business trips."

The two leaders were pleased that a number of documents needed to extend the legal base of bilateral relations had been signed. They also agreed to continue drafting documents that would encourage and enhance further cooperation, including in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, efforts to combat against money laundering, and interaction in science and technology, culture and education.

The parties expressed their "firm intention to sign a bilateral agreement on air travel as soon as possible".

The presidents also agreed to hold a fourth session of a joint commission on cultural cooperation by the end of the year and to sign a cultural exchange program for 2005-2007.

Moreover, the two leaders approved an idea to hold the second Russian-Mexican business and academic forum in Moscow, while they also stressed that direct contacts were developing between the two countries in new sectors of cooperation.

The Russian and Mexican leaders said they were ready to provide a new boost to the dialogue on reforming the UN and promote the UN summit this September. The said agreements had to be reached on a large variety of issues, particularly the enlargement of the Security Council.

The presidents said they considered the anniversary of the foundation of the UN in September to be an opportunity for its members to prove their commitment to the goals and principles of the UN Charter.

The statement said: "In the fight against terrorism, Mexico and Russia proceed from the basis that the measures states take to counter this phenomenon must comply with international law and the UN Charter, including the provisions that concern respect for human rights, the rights of refugees and humanitarian law."

The presidents also welcomed the coming into force of the Kyoto protocol. They said it would improve bilateral and international cooperation on problem of the climate change.
