MOSCOW, June 20 (RIA Novosti) - A business forum organized by the public organization Business Russia and the political party United Russia will open here Tuesday to discuss the outlook of the Russian economy, heavily reliant on its natural resources industries.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov is expected to deliver a keynote speech at the forum, giving an overview of Russia's current economic situation and outlining its future prospects through the year 2008, Business Russia spokeswoman Marina Ryklina said Monday.

Experts invited to the conference will assess the Russian economy's potential for modernization and higher productivity and discuss specific strategies for achieving these objectives. They will analyze the pros and cons of an economy based on natural resources industries as opposed to one oriented toward diversification, of stabilization funds vs. investment development funds, and of various fiscal policies, including sterilization and increase in monetary supply.

Among the forum's expected attendees will be Chair of the Delovaya Rossiya Expert Council Anton Danilov-Danilyan, Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Shatalov, Chair of the Presidential Board of Experts Arkady Dvorkovich, Governor of the Tver Region Dmitri Zelenin and Chief Executive of Aeroflot-Russian Airlines Inc. Valery Okulov, as well as representatives of small and medium-sized businesses from Moscow and the provinces, Ryklina said.

Discussions will be co-moderated by Business Russia Chair Boris Titov and head of United Russia's central executive committee Andrei Vorobyov, she said.

The forum's idea is expressed in its emblem, representing a lumbered forest area against the background of a map of Russia, Ryklina said.

"Russia began selling timber earlier than oil, and it [timber] is traditionally used as a symbol of an economy relying on natural resources industries. This graphically shows where an economy may end up if it remains reliant on natural resources and if small and medium-sized businesses get no opportunities for development," Ryklina said.
