One Chechen militant killed, another detained in a mop-up operation in Daghestan

MAKHACHKALA, June 15 (RIA Novosti) - One Chechen militant has been killed and one other detained in a mop-up operation in Daghestan, a North Caucasus republic bordering Chechnya. This is according to the press office of the Daghestan Interior Ministry, which run the operation.

Zalimkhan Tuleyev, 25, was shot dead as he resisted arrest, ministry spokespeople report. Arsen Dibagiyev, 29, was wounded, and is now receiving medical treatment. This latter man has been on the federal list of most wanted criminals since 2003. He is suspected of involvement in major crimes, including terrorist activity. A large stock of firearms and grenades was found in the house where the bandits had been hiding.

The operation codenamed Filter was carried out by Daghestani police in cooperation with Russian counterparts. The joint police force reportedly sustained no losses.
